    New toy!

As my weight watchers membership has finally lapsed as of yesterday and I’m officially no longer a member I needed something to weigh myself on at home I bought a set of scales…

Now I was originally tempted by the allure of the super hi-tech withings wi-fi scales but they’re just toooo damn expensive for me right now.

Instead I tried to do some research online to find a set of reasonably accurate no-frills scales, it seems to be a bit of a minefield as to how accurate any given set of scales are regardless of price/brand but I stumbled across this comparison of bathroom scales (from 2003!) which gave a somewhat favourable review of the Hanson HL99 bathroom scales and they were among the scales that scored highest for accuracy when compared to a super duper mega accurate doctors scale base reading so that was good enough for me.

here’s what they had to say about them…

    Hanson HL 99
    £25
    Score: 80/100

Technical data: Silver plastic platform. Dimensions: 5x37x36cm; size of LCD display: 6.5x3cm; size of numbers: 22mm high; battery type: 1x lithium CR2032; max weight: 140kg/22st. Recommended for hard flooring only.
    Accuracy: 90/100.

Pros: Good accuracy. Weighs the same on carpet and floor. Gives the fastest reading of electronic scales (four seconds). It is lightweight and comfy to carry; non-slip dimples. Error display tells you if the weight is unbalanced.

Cons: Curved platform makes you feel unbalanced when weighing. Need pointed implement to change between metric and imperial weights.

    Verdict/stockists: Good value digital scale.

so not fantastic but accurate enough for the price and they do lb readings (most uk scales use Kilos)

They should arrive tomorrow but I think I’ll most likely join all the cool kids on tumblr and switch to WiW now for my “official” weekly weight reading.
