Riding to work in the snow

makes me feel like a bloody superhero when I arrive in the office much to everyones amazement.

Mucho slush and compacted snow about today so it was a careful ride in with some friends but only had two minor “oh shi-” moments where the back wheel wanted to show off by going side to side instead of forwards.

Am hoping todays traffic clears the roads for tonights return journey otherwise it’s going to be majorly icy which I’m sure will mean it’s new underpants time before I get home. lol

Am tempted to MTFD and take the bike on the riverboat back along the thames instead but where’s the fun in that?

Also srsly… where’s my damn studded ice tyres Germany! What gives? I thought you guys were ultra-efficient and shiz.

    Snow has arrived in London

My snow/ice tires however have not. FML.

Still I MTFU and rode in today, sh*t I figured it can’t be much colder outside than it is inside my flat right now with no heating and the snow is fresh so not much chance of ice.

Glad I did it too, I arrived in the office like some kind of snow covered superhero out braving the elements, while everyone else struggled with the tube/trains/buses.

And I was one of a handful of people who actually got in ON TIME!

I AM going running with the tritons tonight as well. I fully expect to fall over whilst running. I only walked 20 yards this morning from the office to the coffee shop and I nearly slipped twice on like 1cm of snow slush (take note kids: air force ones are NOT good snow shoes… hopefully my Triax+ running shoes will fare better).

Scales are showing I’m back under tomorrows goal weight again this morning, unless the gods of water retention are in a spiteful mood all is looking good for a decent WiW tomorrow.

Be careful out there people, But remember to be awesome while doing so.

    So

At first I was all like…

    Then I was like…

First time I’ve cycled to work and back AND run with the tritons where we did HILL SPRINTS (again) and GODDAMN was it tough, by the end of the warmup it felt like I had no energy left in my legs at all but I persevered and stuck it out and all in all it was a pretty good introductory brick session and I figure if I’m going to do a sprint triathlon next year I’ll need to cycle and run anyways so why no start now.

I think I may be due a rest day tomorrow after todays exertions but i’ll get my bike gear ready just in case I change my mind.

time for dinner and a well earned rest.

So another full day of commuting by bike

I totally MTFU and rode in despite weather predictions of heavy rain and was only one of two bikes in the parking garage at work (usually 6) so was in the minority who did so kudos to me for that.

My legs are bedding into the 6 mile each way journey and I’m starting to get some ‘ok’ speed going, I still get passed by loads of hardened cyclists but my time will come.

Out of curiosity I hopped on the scales when I got in and the weight… dead on 200lbs.

Tomorrow is gonna be a day of clean eating followed by an evening run with the Tritons and fingers crossed I’ll be seeing my first weight in the 19X’s in about 16 years by WiW.

    Ahh yeah!

    Hey, I’m a cycle commuter!

Today was my first ‘full’ commute from home to work and luckily for me I had my own personal guide in the form of a member of a bike forum I just joined that happens to have a load of commuters who all live locally to me so they offered to let me tag along on their journey in and show me all the ‘hot spots’ and where I need to change lanes etc.

as you can see the pace wasn’t very good (I almost ran quicker than this yesterday lol) but the focus was on safety and getting to know the route.

I’m very happy to have done it though and extremely surprised I managed it on the back of yesterdays race but so far my legs have felt fine.

the return journey tonight may be a bit more precarious as it’ll be getting dark by the time I get on my way but again slow and steady should see me get through it ok.
